Sharks originated in the Devonian seas and continue to thrive to this day. Orthacanthus is a member of the Xenacanthidae family which migrated to and thrived in fresh water. The terror of freshwater swamps in both Europe and North America until they became extinct 225 million years ago, their bodies were long and streamlined which gave them a snake-like swimming action. Attaining lengths of nearly ten feet, their powerful jaws were lined with double-fanged teeth. The present specimen is nearly seven feet long and has been professionally prepared to reveal amazing skin texture as well as stunning dimension to the skeleton.
