SAYH AL UHAYMIR 066 LL5 METEORITE
The meteorite Sayh al Uhaymir 066 was found April 30, 2000 on the surface of the Dhofar desert in Oman by a Russian meteorite hunter. Six stones with the total weight of 4670 grams was discovered. The meteorite is an amphoterite, LL5, S2, W1. (Fa (mol%) 30.8, Fs (mol%) 26.5, Wo (mol%) 2.1. Coordinates of this find was reported in The Meteoritical Bulletin, No. 86, 2002 July edition, as 20°31.9 N.; 56°40.6 E. Classified by S. Afanasiev, Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia. Analyzed by A. Ulianov, Michigan State University. 560 grams is type specimens, are located at Vernadsky and MSU.

Amphoterite Stony meteorites contain about 60% olivine and represent only 8% of the observed chondrite falls. Most of the iron in these meteorites is in an oxidized form and very little free metal is present, usually less then 7%. The iron rich olivine, fayalite in L-Chondrites is between 27-32%. Amphoterite SAU 066 has a nice brown to almost orange matrix with black highlights. In hand specimens, tiny speaks of nickel-iron metal are scattered about a cut surface. Much less then you see in most aerolites. Very few chondrules visible to the eye. The high percentage of olivine (30.8%) stands out to me
