DHOFAR 212 H3.9 METEORITE
Dhofar 212 was found by a Russian meteorite hunter on April 27, 2001 at 18°51.6' N , 54°49.9' E. Seventeen stones of total 1456 g was discovered on the surface of the desert. "Nature of recovery site: rocky planes with carbonate stones, low areas covered with quarz-carbonate sand overgrown by low small bushes." Classification: H3.9; shock stage S2; weathering grade W3. Classified by Dr. Marina A. Ivanova and S. Afanasiev, Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Kosygin St. 19, Moscow 117795, e-mail venus@glasnet.ru. Sample used for classification has been deposited to Committee on Meteorites of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Kosygin St. 19, Moscow 117795, Key classification information: Fa of olivine is 17.0 (11.4 - 18.3) (mol %), Fs of pyroxene is 16.7 (14.9 - 19.1) (mol %).
