DHOFAR 283 H6 METEORITE

Dhofar 283 was found by a Russian meteorite hunter on April 10, 2001, while hunting the Dhofar Desert of Oman. Find coordinates: 18°26.4' N, 54°01.1' E. Five fragments of total 1788g. were recovered on the surface of the desert. "Nature of recovery site: rocky planes with carbonate stones, low areas covered with quarz-carbonate sand overgrown by low small bushes."

Classification: H6; shock stage S3; weathering grade W3. Classified by S.Afanasiev, Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Kosygin St. 19, Moscow 117795. Sample used for classification has been deposited to Committee on Meteorites of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Kosygin St. 19, Moscow 117795 and to Deparment of Geology of Moscow State University (M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University, Vorobjovy Gory, Moscow, 119899, RUSSIA). Key classification information: Fa of olivine is 18.9 (mol %), Fs of pyroxene is 18.6 (mol %). Analyzed by A.Ulianov, (MSU).
