표본은 북아프리카 모로코의 오르도비스기 지충에서 발견된 화석이다. 삼엽충은 지구에서 가장 다양한 눈을 가진 최초의 절지동물로 기록되고 있지만, 표본은 아그노스티드와 같이 눈이 없는 재미있는 삼엽충이다. 또한 아자푸스목의 저서성이 아닌 유영성 삼엽충인 키클로피게(Cyclopyge)삼엽충이다. 아래그림에서도 보듯이 삼엽충중 2~3번째로 작은 아주아주 희귀한 표본이다. 일본에 방문했을 때 우연한 기회에 확보하게 된 표본이다. 박물관이나 삼엽충의 분류에 관심이 있는 전문가라면 욕심을 내도 부족함이 없는 표본이다.

This Cyclopyge trilobite is a very rare trilobite fossil. We are not sure of the exact species but the order is Asaphida. It comes from an area near Alnif, Morocco. This trilobite dates from the Ordovician, about 470 million years ago. You will note it has no eyes and is a rare example of a Blind trilobite. They are thought to be bethnic (bottom dwellers) and may even have buried into the sand.

The cyclopyge measures 0.8 inches long and 0.45 inches wide. The matrix measures roughly 2.4 inches long, 2.4 inches wide and 0.65 inches high.  There are several other parts of a Cyclopyge on the surface as well. The specimen has not been repaired or restored.
